Oil pan question...
Ok I'm confused.. I'm putting one of my engines back togather and I wanna make sure it'll fit.. I don't know if its gonna go in my 89 maro or my 86 vette yet.. its a driver side dipstick 2 piece rms block... I have an oil pan for it which is a stock 5qt pan out of ?? I don't remember which car it came out of.. I guess what I'm asking is will it fit both cars or am I gonna have a problem? Are the oil pans the same dimensions?

Stock oil pans are the same dimensions, but your description is a little confusing. You're not trying to put a pan from a 1-piece RMS block onto a 2-piece RMS, are you?

thanks.. just trying to clarify because someone told me this on another website and it doesnt make any sense to me.. "The vette pan is specific to vettes. It has a sump that is slightly more shalow, but the sump extends toward the rear of the car more. This is the case with 87-91 cars. I would assume the 84-86 cars are the same but not 100% sure of this." I'm just boltin the bitch on and if it doesn't work I'll get another pan..

I always thought other differences that could exist would be truck-car oil pans, a large truck pan would not clear the cross member.
only one way to find out if yours will fit...
