Manifold box says MUST USE EDELBROCK GASKETS. why?
I just got a Performer RPM manifold in the mail and there is a sticker on the box that says in big letters MUST USE GENUINE EDELBROCK GASKETS FOR A PERFECT FIT. Why? I got some felpro gaskets FPP-1256 with the silicon seals around the ports. Shoud I return them and get the edelbrock gaskets? Thanx

Why? They want all of your money, not just what you spent on the intake.
The Fel Pros will be fine.

Edelbrock used to recommend the Fel-Pro 1205. They haven't changed the manifold design since then, but now using gaskets other than theirs will blur your vision, curve your spine, cause birth defects, torture innocent puppies, put holes in the ozone layer and allow communists to infiltrate the government.

They absolutely want your money........I bought a (TPI) set of edelbrock's hi flo runner gaskets. Open the package and you only get the gaskets for the bottom of the runners. I called them and they said," yah you use the stock gaskets at the top of the runner". My reply? "Well WTF did I pay you $40 freakin dollars for then if I still need a set of stock gaskets!! They're catalogue doesn't say that its only half a kit! M----r Fer's!

Ape, that rocks
when I bought mine (two weeks ago) the guy at the perf shop told me not to use a certain type, and to use a soft cork style or something..... Something about the aluminum intake being too soft for a certain harder kind....
*shrug*, I have a summit gasket set with a soft-ish gasket, so i'm going to use that.

Ford, Chev, Dodge also say to use original parts when we all know parts store parts work just as well.
The only time you "need" to use original parts is when a cheaper version isn't available and sometimes an original part can be cheaper.
My aluminum heads recommended a specific Felpro intake gasket however the one they recommended wouldn't work with my tunnel ram intake so I just used a different Felpro gasket that fit and sealed better.

Thanks guys. I'll use the felpros I got. I thought it might be some sort of con game. I already paid Edelbrock too much for this manifold.

Hey guys, sorry to beat a dead horse, but this post is relevant to me and not too old so I wanted to confirm.
I've been using the Edelbrock set for a couple years, had to open up the runner gaskets before.
Just had some new heads put on and wanted to confirm which gaskets to buy for the runners.
So part # EDL-3866 is just the bottoms, and are slightly bigger so they don't need any modifications?
Yet the tops are only avail in stocker size (separately) and have to be opened period?
Or I can just buy the complete set of Mr. Gasket as posted in this link, but that part # says 85-88 only.
Any other options? Edelbrock doesn't sell a separate top set that doesn't need modifying?
What's in the Fel-Pro 1205 gasket set?

You're talking about TPI? Not sure about the runner gaskets, we've been talking about the intake gaskets.

Yes the runner gaskets. I can't comment on the mr gaskets except that at 1.75 they might be a bit large. I also have a set of TPIS large gaskets but the TPIS gasket openings do not line up correctly with the edelbrock runners. Here is what I did. The gaskets in the kit are correct for the BOTTOM of the runners. I bought a set of felpro AND a set of victor upper runner gaskets BUT both have tin in between two sheets of gasket material so they get F'd up trying to open them up. I bolted the gaskets (stock) to the top of the runners, used a dremel to open them up so they were close to size and then bought good quality gasket paper for my real gaskets. Not cork but a GOOD quality paper style material (carquest universal kit). I then tranfered the dremeled gasket onto the new material and then used a very sharp hobby (Xacto) knife to cut them out. I then bolted the new gaskets to the runners and finished them to size with the xacto knife. I plan on using a thin coat of rtv when I install the gaskets AND I made sure the bolt holes lined up exactly to the runner so that the gasket will be aligned properly at install. Its alot of work but I'm happy with the results.
