L98 cam in LO3

Hi, My friend has a L98 GTA and he recently had his cam switched out for a different one. he still has the old cam, and i was wandering if i were to put it in my LO3 would it make a difference? is it possibly the same cam that it has now? Are there other things i would need to buy? already did a search, i couldn't find any other posts.

For the cost of a new camshaft, you may as well just purchase a better one. Shouldn't be the same as yours AFAIK. The trouble is changing the camshaft itself, they really aren't that expensive and you could get a much better improvement with an another one.

An L98 cam will make a big difference in your car (the LO3 has one of the smallest cams ever) but only if you already have a full exhaust and have the ability to chip tune. Without chip work you cannot run any cam other than stock.

in case you're wondering, you don't need to buy other parts, aside from maybe an oilpan gasket, timing chain cover gasket, maybe a timing chain while you're there. you don't need new lifters or anything pricey like that.

so assuming you can chip tune, and have an exhaust to help out the mod, then it's an alright idea, assuming you can get the cam pretty cheaply.

At the very least he will need to buy new valve springs to match the cam and a new timing chain. You can get away without either but that isn't truly performing a proper cam swap.

alright thanks alot guys. he would give me the Cam, its just putting it in he said was going to be the challenge. yeah, im already saving up right now for long tube heddman hedders (there only 140, and i've got it now) so im going to get those and put true dual exhaust on it straight out to the back. that and the cam, and gaskets and ill look into the chip tuning you were talking about. thanks alot guys
