learn about engine parts, etc??? help
im trying to save money by rebuilding my two engines, one a 305 and a 350, both tpi's... i bought books and dvd's to read and watch but they all assume that you know what bearings, cam bearings, sleeves, freeze plugs, rods, plates, etc.... i know basic stuff but nothing too deep. they talk about measurements and tools which i know i grasp after reading, but all these parts are outta my league.... i know i have to take em to a machine shop first and then bring bk home to rebuild... so can anyone direct me to books, websites, etc... anything that i can read that will explain in depth or in general what the internal parts of chevy small block are and thier purpose??? thanks...

Here is a website that I have found helpful...
Howstuffworks "Under The Hood Channel"
I would also recommend purchasing a Haynes manual for your vehicle. They are roughly $15 and come in handy.
Other than these resources, I have basically learned alot from reading posts on Thirdgen.org and simply taking things apart.
Hope this helps!
Best of luck.

For background information, check out the Internet and your local library's automotive section.
As far as specifics, usually when the book says don't remove this bearing or that bearing without a tool, it's because you actually need the tool.
You don't have a chance in hell of replacing the cam bearings, for example, without an installer tool.
