Odd Ticking All of a Sudden
Odd Ticking All of a Sudden
I just started to notice a medium sound level ticking near the distributor and I cannot figure out what it is. Can the oil pressure sending unit or maybe the fuel pressure regulator make a ticking sound? I can hear it from inside the car and the ticking will speed up as the engine RPM's increase? I can hear is loudest back by the distributor. I have never heard this noise before and it's buddin' the heck outta me. Any ideas?

I don't think it's a regular valve train noise or an injector, what else could it be?

Best thing to do is grab a chunk of hose and poke around the back of the motor with one end and listen with the other. Pretty effective way of locating noises.
I highly doubt it's the fuel injectors, because I heard them before and this is a totally different noise. It's kind of a whine/ticking noise. It sorta sounds like the noise your speedo cable makes when it needs lubed, but this noise is coming from the rear of the engine. I know it's not the speedo because it still makes noise at stop and will increase when the engine RPM climbs. So strange.

I dunno about the whining deal, but first thing that comes to mind is what vic suggested....go over your header bolts, and your collectors....even one bolt backed out a little can make a ticking noise. I know, I thought I had a lifter going bad but I went through my exhaust bolts first and whaddya know, tightened a few up and the tick was gone. K.I.S.S.
