How far away from 400hp am I?

I finished porting my Vortec heads. I cut out all of that excess material on the exhaust side, cleaned up the casting marks on the intake side, and gasket matched em all. I also unshrouded everything, contoured the guides, gave them a 3-angle valve job, and hot tanked them. Reassembling them with tri-coil valve springs (properly shimmed), undercut stainless steel valves, screw-in studs, guide plates, hardened pushrods, and 1.6" roller rockers.

They will be topping a 4-bolt Chevy 350 bored .040" fully forged with ~9.5:1 compression. My cam currently is a cc305 (220/230, .544/.544", 112) and I have a full exhaust 3" all the way back (electric cutout for races). My intake is an Edelbrock RPM Air Gap manifold, the dual-plane style with the notch out of the center. I currently run an Edelbrock 1406 600cfm carb.

What's left for 400hp?

cam is larger than needed for 400 hp. a comp XE274 should be good for 400 hp with a performer RPM air-gap intake and a 750 double pumper carb, not a crap edelbrock 600. so the motor should make more than 400 with a real carb on top instead of that thing.

Agreed his Edel 600 is junk.....I hate edelbrock carbs....but do you think a 750DP is gonna be streetable? Sounds like he's got a pretty street-friendly combination for the most part..... I dont know much about what you can get away with on a 350, but I know on a 302, you CAN pull off a 650DP, but the streetability pretty much sucks. Just thought I'd mention that.

But I do agree, bout anything would probably be better than a 600 Edelbrock, Im just questioning whether perhaps a 650DP might be better for his combination. I guess it depends on what his plans are for the car

Well I can tell you from experience that running a wild combination on the street is cool for a day or two but it gets real old after that. Keep that in mind...it's always better to go slightly conservative, than full-bore and wind up perhaps overcarbed/overcammed for what you're intending to do.

No way a 750dp will over carb that engine. I do however agree that it may be a little over cammed.

On a daily street driver, I think that I would look more toward a 670 holley street avenger than a full on double pumper. The vacuum secondaries will give you the drivability you want, and the performance when you need it.

pfffffff That carb is junk. If a double pumper is so bad, how come I still got 22 mpg highway with a 750 on my old 305? Isn't that about the same as the stock quadrajet? A double pumper is fine for daily driving, you drive on 2 barrels just like a vacuum secondary carb. Only difference being when you put your foot into it. You could drive a 400 hp engine around town with all the acceleration you'd need without tipping into the secondaries.

Yea I agree. Anyone that says a dp is no good on the street either over carbed, or can't tune worth a damn.

You should be able to get 400 flywheel hp with that. I wish sometimes I would have went Vortec and saved some damn money...

Cool tat! Relax, imho you are a little over cammed for what you have. Guess I didn't see no flow bench results either though
