whos runnin a TPI in there truck? need help with tpi/700r4 combo!
well i have a tpi motor and im runnin a 730 ecm....also runnin a 700r4 trans. the truck was a 4.3 5spd.....well i have not been able to get lockup in the trans since i have done the swap...the trans is fulley built and the tcc is a 2200b&m holeshot lockup. i have probed the purple wire and i have power with the key on....ran a wire off the tan wire to the cab and grounded it at 60mph no lockup....been told this could mean i have a bad tcc soliniod. also been told to probe the "f" port and check for power in my ALDL but i have no metel prong in that hole to prob? im guessin since the truck was a 5spd it was never setup with a prong in the "f" port...but not sure. also been told that the 730 ecm needs a 4pulse signal from the vss to make lockup work and that the truck 700r4 with the truck vss only puts out a 2pulse so the ecm is not gettin the right singnal to lockup....but i cant find proof of this and if it is true im not sure how to fix it.....what it come down to is that my trans is whinning and makin noise it should not and it has always done this...im sure its from not gettin the tcc to lockup...i need to know how to go about fixing this...i have no idea were to start...im tryin to hold out from using an aftermarket lockup kit cus i want to control lockup speed....plus right now im not even sure if a vacuum lockup kit will do the trick.....need help!! thanks

you need to make sure the connector that plugs into the trans is wired right.
the wires may be on different terminals inside the trans than what a thirdgen is.
to check it you will need to drop the pan.
if they are wired right, with the pan still off & with power to the proper pin going into the trans you should see voltage with a DVMM on the other TCC wire coming out of the trans. you should be able to ground the wire coming out of the trans & the TCC solenoid should click when you ground it. if the solenoid doesn't click with power on 1 side when you ground the other side then there is something wrong.
i have a truck trans in my car & it has the truck VSS & the TCC works just like it is suppose to.
to have the ECM controlling the TCC once you know everything else is right, you will need to make some changes to the chip.
the truck VSS puts out a 40 pulse per revolution signal & the thirdgens do use a 4 pulse, so with a 730 ECM it will think your moving a lot faster than you really are, & i do mean a lot faster, depending on tire size & gear in the rear end, its something on the lines of like over 100 MPH when your really only doing about 15 MPH.
in case you don't know, this really isn't thirdgen related, so this may get locked. feel free to PM me if it does with any other questions, i'll help as much as i can.

Yes, post your question under the "engines, gasoline" section. There is also a search function on the upper right part of the page, next to the Google logo. There's a guy on the forums with a TPI 350 he's just now completeing an installation on. I don't remember his name, but if you sing out, he will chime in.
