fan switch
finally got to drag my 91 Z last weekend for the first time since I've owned it (at least on a lagite drag strip). It was 90* plus and the engine was at 235* in the staging lanes. Would like to know if there is a way to add a switch to run both fans while staging to keep the temp at 195*and turn them off before racing so they work run as normal on the street?
91,000 orginal miles, ran 14.6 and 96 mph on street tires in the heat, good bad or ulgy? K&N's and a cat back system without the cats are the only mods. 60 ft time was around 2.8 and 2.9. had to really roll into the throttle and still had trouble hooking up
thanks

Change the switch out completely for a cooler one... I got one from Painless. Its rated at 200*on/180*off, but in reality its more like 210*on/195*off. I know that because I have a machanical temp guage that is accurate.
But it fits into the same hole in the head that the factory switch does, and only requires you to chop off the goofy factory connector for a female spade connector.
Works great for me, but the only problem I have is that, in the staging lanes, my single electric fan (thats also not close enough to the rad) doesn't move enough air to cool it down enough to turn off the switch when its just sitting there idling, which would lead to me racing with my fan on. To get around this, I put a simple on/off switch in the middle of the wire to the fan switch sensor. That way, if the fan is on when I roll up to the burn-out box, I can manual turn off the fan.
With dual fans mounted properly with the rad (unlike mine, which is too far away from the rad to work properly) you probably will not need the manual switch like I have, but that is how you do it if you decide you do want it.

Thanks for the tips. I have 2 fans, one works with the temp sensor and the other turns on with the air conditioning. I think the factory setting of 235* to turn the one fan on is to high and I should replace it with switch with a lower limit (thanks Air_Adam). However, what I was getting at was being able to manually turn both fans on and off with a switch while in the staging lanes if needed and have them work normal when the switch is off(for the street).
