speedo not working

I let my brother borrow my car for prom awhile back and somehow the speedometer broke while he was driving it. Now it just reads 0. Im not sure where to start trouble shooting or how to test to see what part is borken. Its an 88 GTA. Any Ideas would be much appreciated.

I think that the 'Birds got electronic speedo gauges starting in '86, althoughI'm positive an 88GTA would have the two-wire VSS. If not, I'm sure someone will post up and correct me.
The teeth could have stripped, or a wire is loose, probably something not too awful bad.

Gear probably popped out of the tranny, every T/A from '86 up had electronic speedo. I've had a similar problem. I'd check there 1st, it's a pretty quick check.

well I pulled it out tonight and no luck. It looked brand new. Perfect teeth and the plug even looked suprisingly clean for where it is. I followed the wires into the main harness and they dont look worn or anything. What else could the problem be. Has anybody ever had one go bad inside. I wanted to test it with a volt meter but i couldnt find mine.

Ok i got to plugging in diacom today and the ecm knows how fast the car is going but the speedo still reads 0. Does that mean that something in my digital dash is broken? Also I cant read my odometer. It is just blank and doesnt read anything.

Well, IMO, it now sounds like something inside the speedo gauge is either loose or broken. You'll never know until you take it apart I guess.
