key

hey everyone, have a quick question (did a search, with no results) so sorry if it's been asked a lot of times.

the door/trunk/t-top key for my camaro is broke and ii no longer can find the broken off part(which i pulled out of the key hole), how/where can i get a new key made for it since the original is broken? and approximately how much? (i know how much it is to make a key but not without an original to copy)

thanks,
mike

i'm not sure wether or not you have it but my 91 has the vat chip in the key you would either have to go to a dealership and order one or youy could order one off of ebay only they are blank vat keys! as for losing the cut end maybe you could get lucky and a dealership could use you vin and make another key. had a pontiac sunfire that my wife lost the keys and all i needed was proof of ownership and the vin ten minutes later had a new set!!

thanks for the reply. no there isn't a chip in the key, figures i have an extra igntion key but the door key breaks instead lol... i can't even take the t-tops off without it so it's a dealer only item?? what happens if they can't make one just off of my vin?

thanks,
mike

i'm sorry i thought it was an ignition key!! lol you could get new door locks but that doesn't solve your t-top problem! never had to replace those. might be a bit expensive but i bet a locksmith could come out and make a key for them! i have heard of them doing that.

Do you still have the original owners manual? If so, look in that vinyl pouch that it comes in, and look through the book - there may be a plastic set of keys there for it. My manual has a "plastic" card that has the cut outs for the keys. It's about the size of a credit card.
