we just bought a 86 camaro with the 2.8l mfi. It starts fin and idles ok, but the throttle responce is terrible. It will surge after about 2 seconds after stepping on the throttle, and it will keep reveving after you let off the throttle. Any help would be appreicated. i am used to carbs on 2nd gen camaros.

Check the idle air control valve (IAC) and throttle position sensor for proper operation. Idle speed is controlled mostly by the IAC position and fuel delivery by the ECM based on the TPS signal.

If both of these check out OK, check for vacuum leaks and emission hose routing.

They are both on the side of the throttle body, both held in place by two torx screws. The TPS has a 3-wire connector and the IAC has 4 wires. Do a search for "TPS adjustment" and "IAC".
