Precious metal spark plugs

Now I've heard various things about precious metal spark plugs- some say that it would be worth investing in some platinum plugs, and others say that it's simply not necessary and that a good set of standard plugs will serve you just fine. I was wondering what people on this board thought- Are the precious metal plugs worth the extra money?

dont bother.

Good ol' delco or champion coppers will do the trick.

These beasts sometimes wont run worth a crap with those fancy plugs.

you will find lots of people on the same wavelength about plugs.

This is one of the rare things where the most expensive or shiny looking thing is not the best product to choose!

Platinum plugs last longer so if your plugs are hard to change, they're worth it. Other than that, normal plugs work fine. You won't notice any increase in power between a set of new normal plugs compared to a set of new platinum plugs.

Same goes for all the gimmick plugs. Plus 4, split fire etc. Any increase in power, if any, will only be seen on a dyno. I'd rather have a single normal ground strap on a plug so that the spark doesn't get shrouded.

The best thing you can do with any plug is to index it so that the ground strap is at the top, away from the piston.

I run platinum plugs in my daily driver truck just because they're hard to change and I'd like them to last at least 5 years before changing them. My race car has NGK race plugs. They look just like any other normal spark plug. Cost of the race plugs is about the same as a normal plug.

Spark plugs Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I tried those iridium plugs they are pretty good if you can get a loan to buy them then a good buddy of mine recommended zex plugs they are copper core with extra ground straps and guess what cheaper than those iridiumumum plugs and more potent especially if you run nos. try zex.com for more info.

Bosch Plats are like 2 bucks a pop. Last long and do not have to gap them. Not a bad way to spend 16 bucks. Coppers work fine... but i rather get kicked in the ***** then change plugs sooner than i have to.
