Where to tap into for Mechanical Oil Press gauge??

Tonight I fired the car for the third time and after it was running for a bit I noticed the oil press was extremly low!
I either just confirmed my heavy paperweight or my factory gauge/sender is bad. I want to install a mech gauge for the time being until I get an all new gauge setup (if that day ever comes).

Where would be the best place and what would be the best method to install a Mech gauge on my roller block?

their should be a plug on the front, just above and to the passenger side of the timing cover. Theirs also the one up by the dizzy and another just north of the oil filter.

The easiest i think would be to buy a tee fitting and hook it up with the elec sending unit by the dizzy.

Cool. I was looking for alternatives to the rear china wall (not too much room back there anymore) and to the plug above the oil filter. Thats where my stock sending unit is and its a PITA to get to with the motor in the car.

I've done a lot of work hiding everything but I guess I can make the lines and gauge look decent on the front of the motor.

Anywhere else perhaps?

I believe that is all of them.

What kind of induction are you using?

With my carbed setup i can easily get in by the dizzy to work on my sending unit...

Im running the HSR. With the Plenum, Vacuum lines, and all the wiring I ran back on the firewall there is just too much going on back there.

take a look up at the front up above the timing cover, you may be lucky enough to have the plug there.

Your proms show up yet?

I primed my new 357 tonight, getting ready to put it in the car. Primed with a standard 1/2" drill at 75psi for a few minutes. rotated the motor over, repeat, rotate, repeat. Took a while to get all the air out. Good now though.

Now I gotta install the shift kit and get the motor and tranny in the car.

The plug right by the timing cover worked perfectly man! Thanks!!!

I have 10 PSI at idle (800 RPM) and 40+ with RPM's...I'm worried this is way too low oil pressure. I'm running a M55A pump but my 305 stock with 170,000 miles on it saw 30 PSI at idle!

Joe, thanks man! They came in and I fired it up. Ran much better now. I'm gonna send you a PM with more info.
BTW...veeeeery sexy

the idle pressure is a tad low. But the general rule of thumb is 10psi per 1000rpm. You should still be safe.

Anesthes: that is a sexy beast!

Well I run loose clearances and a M55HV.. Did you prime it for a while before the first time you fired it?

So it runs good? Which chip runs best?

With these metal particles in the and the very low oil pressure im very worried...I don't understand why it would be low at idle and great with RPM's (almost hitting 60 PSI).

Joe, I just sent you a PM with some more details. I didn't get much running time and didn't try the chip with the most fuel as the middle chip burned my eyes in the garage.
