Camaro went dead for no reason or ???

My question is this,, I was driving my RS the other day and everything was fine, just another day driving around. It was hot and I had done a long run on the autobahn doing around 100 mph, and had some stop and go in town. I then turn off the car for a quick stop and once I got in to start up again,, NOTHING,, it was like the battery was dead, but everything else worked, light, power windows, radio, I could hear the electric fan kick in while I had the key in but the starter would not move at all. One thing I did notice was that the TEMP gauge was way up there. Any way, I was lucky to be close by a friend who came over to see if I needed to jump it, about a half hour past since she went dead on me,, before we did anything I try to start it again and VIOLA,, it started like nothing ever happen. I drove it home, turn it on and off and still no problem. Weird...
I wondering is there a sensor that would not let her start if it gets too HOT . IF so do you think my Thermostat is on the blink ?? For the record I only drive this car about 3 times a month during the summer and spring, I maybe put 2000 miles a year. But I keep up all the maintanance up to date plus some more.. She's my pride and joy only the best for her. I do have one probability for her not wanting to start up ,, I was looking at other cars at a BMW dealer,, maybe she got jealous,, (not that I would trade her in, just looking to trade my BMW in)

Starter overheated. Common GM problem. Buy a starter heat shield, it protects it from exhaust manifold heat, which is the cause of your problem

how old is the starter?

Sounds like its on its way out...

As for the heat shield, i think thats a bunch of BS. Especially if your just running manifolds.

My bigazz bosch starter sits less than half an inch away from my headers and its never gave me a problem!

Just cause it never gave you a problem doesn't make it BS. It's less likely with stock manifolds true, but it still happens.

Basically the same thing happened to me, except I hadn't driven the car for several hours. I still don't know what the problem was but I think it was a switch of some kind. A way to test is (when the no start condition occurs) if you can jump a wire from the starter positive terminal to the starter solenoid wire with the key on and if it starts then its a switch (not the solenoid switch though). Possible switches are the vats switch or ignition switch. I think there may also be a starter enable switch, but that may be attached to the vats.
