Hey guys, I just purchased a '92 Z28 with a little over 58,000 miles on it. It has the 305 engine. I've seen that the 305 Z28's have been rated at either 205hp or 230hp. Are the 205hp ones automatic and the 230hp ones manual? Mine is an automatic. I've also heard that the 230hp ones have a performance axle option. How can I tell if mine has the performance axle option without having the original price /option sticker from the car?

Check the RPO list which should be under the console lid. Keep in mid this only tells you what it came out of the factory with, these could have changed at the dealer or by previous owners!

Now as for its HP rating i though one reved a bit higher but it shows both as LB9's and max rpms the same....

Other than pulling the cam and getting the casting number im not sure about that one...

Since its a Automatic, my guess is you have a base 305Tpi with 205 Hp and a 2:73 rear with a limited slip RPO G80.
So don't get your hopes up for anything else and the VIN will only tell you the engine tyoe (F) for 305 TPI.

if not you may have a base TBI 305 @170 HP

 

I know it's not the TBI 305... It has the tuned port injection. Are there any automatics with the 230hp, or is that pretty much only the manuals? It doesn't really matter to me if it has 205hp or 230hp. Either way I'm happy with the car. I've always wanted a 91-92 Z28 and I'm glad to finally get one!

 

305 TPI with a Auto=205 Hp and nothing esle for the stock engine. For more info check the tech pages on this site for additional info. Also you should of checked this info first, then asking for hearsay reponses.

 

Sorry, but I did check that info first. That's how I found out about the 205 and 230hp engines. I wanted to see how I could find out which one I had....
