SES light stays on!

I have an 89 Formula 305 TPI. The SES light is on. When I go to pull the codes the light just stays on! It does not blink or change. I even diconected the battery to reset the computer. SES light still on. The car runs fine. Need to get it inspected. Evertyhing is good but this. Any ideas? Thanks

Matthew

If the light stays on when the battery is unplugged, then either your eyes are playing tricks on you or it is wired to some other power source. My vote is for option A.

I ment that after I cleared and reset the computer by disconnecting the battery... then reconnecting it.... That the light still comes on. I in no way ment that the light was on without the battery. Sorry for any confusion.

In that case I would either go with a bad ECM or some other wire is shorting to your SES light wire.

Take it to an auto parts store and tell them your SES light came on and ask if they can pull your codes. The Autozone chain in our area does this for free and then plugs it in and gives you a print out of your codes. I'm guessing you've got a minor constant code. Then if not, a short.

I tried pulling the codes...I have a code reader. The codes will not flash out.

Thanks

If the car runs fine, I'd rule out a bad ECM. Check all of the sensors that provide input to the ECM (TPS, IAC, CTS, Knock, O2). Any of them unplugged or not seen by the ECM would cause a constant SES light.

You can disconnect the battery, drop the ECM, open the access cover, and try reseating the CALPAK in its socket.

Would this also cause it not to flash out codes?

Also, I will try reseting the calpak.

Thanks
