87' IROC idle stalling
87' IROC idle stalling
well here is the deal. I've got a 87 IROC 5.7, it recently died on me and after searching and searching i finally found out it was the pick-up module inside the dist. After replacing that I timed car (unplug wire, timing light, ect.) to 6 degrees tbc as instructed on emission sticker under the hood. Now, the problem.....the car starts fine, runs at the high idle then when it kicks down to the low idle (about 500 rpm) the engine stalls. I can always restart the engine, and it does the same thing everytime. It also dies when I try to put any load on it, such as shifting into a gear. I'm goin to check my fuel pressure tomorrow just to rule that out and I already changed the filter too. Please help!! I miss my car....
Welcome Aboard!
Try cleaning the throttle body bores and plates. Then remove the IAC stepper motor, clean the air passages, and disassemble and clean the IAC. After assembly, set teh throttle minimum air position, then reset the TPS voltage. You should be all good at that point.
