That isn't very much info there at all.
What year is the car?
Original 305? Rebuilt? What parts are in it?
which intake? Edelbrock performer, or performer RPM? It'll say right on it.
remove one of your valve covers, and check what the casting # is on it. Should be stamped right there under the covers, between rocker arms. The last 3 digits will tell the story. Unless they're aftermarket heads, then you should be able to tell that easily.
Does it run now? Fast? I'm gonna guess here, just off the top of my head - it's a dog with 8:1 CR or so.

First you need to get a set of 305 heads to match the block or a 350 short block to match the heads.

ask him what cam is in it, exactly, and then find out what heads are on it.
I'm guessing it'll be kinda slow, that may have something to do with why he sold it. but who knows right? bolt it all up and find out!

Are you for sure that those heads are 350 heads? According to many sources if you were to install 350 heads on the small bore 305 your are going to experience shrouding of the valves. I have ran and would recommend highly a set of World sportsman 305 torquer heads, they are cheap, can handle a nice grind cam, and flow well with plenty of room for improvement for your smallbore motor. I noticed a stout increase after I installed those heads.

305 combo
That sounds like a great idea if you can afford it. Then find out what cam you have. You'll need some duration to make 300 horse out of 305 inches.

yeaaa, duration and a 305 with 350 heads - DOGS *****.
sorry, but if you are going for power, you need to make sure you have higher compression first. Chances are it's got smog dog 350 heads, and like 7.5:1 CR.

It really doesn't take all that much duration to make 300 FWHP out of a 305. You just need some good flowing heads, around 10:1 compression, headers, good exhaust, good induction setup, and good tuning.
I pulled 240 RWHP/310 RWTQ out of a 305 that had a stock TBI 350 truck cam with 1.6:1 roller rockers in it. It specs 260/268 @ .008, 193/205 @ .050, .383/.401 lift w/ 1.5 rocker, .409/.428 lift with a 1.6 rocker, 112 LSA, 107 ICL. I was running a stock TBI Van intake elongated to fit the older 601 casting heads that I had ported in my garage. The intake was gasket matched to the same gasket as the heads. I also had a BBC TBI unit on a 1" tall open center TBI spacer for a 2" bore TBI. It had headers, tuning, 350 injectors, open element air cleaner and dual 3" exhaust. I was also running .040" over flattop pistons (-6cc in the 4 valve reliefs), .015" in the hole, the head gasket is steel shim and something like .027" compressed with a 3.8" bore, with the 53 cc chambers of the 601. That is right at 10.4:1 compression. 1 HP per cubic inch.
Edit, just ran the numbers through a calculator and it came out at 10.6:1 compression, YIKES, no wonder it like 93 octane and 32* timing advance. The 10.4:1 is with the 081s 56 cc chambers that were on it later. I updated the DD2000 for it. 312 HP @ 5,000 rpm and 366 TQ @ 3,500.
It pulled a 15.3 @ 93 in a fullsize van with 3.08 gears, P295/50/R15 tires and 2,000 rpm converter in the 700r4, so quite frankly, I believe the Mustang Dyno, DD2000, and even the HP based on the fuel delivery specs. 4.3 45 lb/hr injectors at 32 psi in the BBC TBI unit (1994-1995 Factory 454 Van TBI unit, regulator, injectors). That is about 75 lb/hr each and I was pushing them nearly static @ 5,000. I switched to 61 lb/hr 350 injectors at the same 32 PSI and the high RPM miss went away.
Attached are the DD2000 chart and cylinder head flow numbers.
Using lean cruise this same engine hit 22-23 MPG on highway trips more than once. I have NO doubts that it could get better than 30 on highway trips in a F-car.
I really miss this combo as it did everything well.

Sonix - I meant use the World Products 305 heads if he can afford them. And I'll stand by my statement on duration. Not that you'll need a race cam but, more than 205 degrees @ .050.

I did it with 193/205 or atleast got very close. 240 RWHP with roughly a 25% drivetrain loss. Consider that I had full acessories, 7 bladed mechanical clutch fan, 700r4, 8.5" 10-bolt, GM cast TBI intake, 2 bbl TBI unit, stock air cleaner assembly, and full exhaust with cats.
