That's not a stock distributor, so the module you have from the parts store won't work. Looks like a mallory unit; you'll probably have to get a part # off the dist. to get a correct module (if that truly is the problem). Good Luck!!

square peg, round hole

edit...how did you check for spark?

Try sticking a screwdriver in the plug boot, and hold that less than a 1/4" from the frame, header, etc and see if it sparks when your buddy cranks it.

If the dist is wired correctly your unilite ,odule is bad. I have never had too much luck with those things anyway. Best bet would be to go down to the local parts store and get a stock HEI dist. Otherwise if you want to fix what you got. Call Summit or Jegs and get a new module for the unilite. The module is the part in the first picture. They are pretty easy to replace.

It sure is. I forget how to check it. You can call mallory and get directions for checking it. It has been years since I used one of those things. As I recall it has three wires on it. Red is to key on (Ign), green is to the coil and black is to ground.

Well the first question would be was the car running and then just died or did you change things and now it will not start?

Symptoms of a bad module would be no spark. In your case it should also have the power wire to the module getting power. It is also important to know for a fact that the coil is good. Make sure that the coil that your using works with a unilite. MSD make a few different coils and some only work with their stuff.

ok replaced ignition module started up right away thank you for all the help, but now its idling real low and sputters a whole lot when at low rpms until i get up around 2000 rpms then it starts going normal so im convinced its getting too much fuel if i give it alot of gas or not even fast just normal it pops and a puff of gas shoots out the top of the carb, how do i adjust the carb air fuel settings because im pretty sure one of them got messed with and now its getting too much gas. how many turns out from closed on an edelbrock carb is factory tuned?

Glad that you got it running.

Setting of the carb is different on most cars. You just need to tune it for what works good for your car. Start from fully closed and open a turn and a half. That is a good place to start.

im sure its not the carb right now, i was thinking that i installed the distributor rotor wrong but i called mallory tech support and they told me that it only goes on one way and even the motor is turned with the cap off it wont affect it, he told me it is most likely my timing so i really dont want to pay the shop 80$ for setting the timeing seeing as how a timing light is only 40$ im going to buy one but how do i set it?
