357 with no power

I have a 89 TPI 357 fresh motor with 5000 mile and manual trans. It has a mild cam. The car has okay power at low rpms but when it hits about 4200 rpms starts dying and by the time it hits 4600 it has no power. It does have a rattle, chatter noise when the motor hits about 3200. I have the timing at 12 degrees. It's where the cam specs require. I have proper fuel pressure and no service engine light. I blocked off the egr system but still have the air system. I'm at a loss. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks.

Well, With a TPI (assuming unmodded) dont expect to make any power over 4600RPM anyways. Thats about where they fall flat on their face.

The TPI's are good for gobs of low end torque but in stock form just fall flat on their face long before 5k

Although this chatter noise you are talking about has me concern..... What kind of noise? like a ping or something else like a lifter?

is the clatter at low RPMS, high gear, high throttle?
Isn't your timing set more by your computer? I mean, you still have knock retard? (working?)
5000 miles, does it burn any oil? What cam specifically? what pistons? What injection setup is that, MAF or MAP?

It's not the TPI intake, they do not cause the engine to clatter and STOP pulling at 4600rpm. More than likely you need to go back through and reset your base timing (disconnect wire) and set to more like 6 - 8 degrees. Also set you min idle speed and double check the TPS voltage at idle and WOT. Wouldn't hurt to pull a couple plugs to see if you need to increase your fuel pressure. Check for vacuum leaks also.
