Does engine block year matter?
Does engine block year matter?
i am going to be getting an engine block to build my 383. Does it matter much what year of car/truck the engine block comes out of? I literally have Everything to build the engine except the block...

well if you have everything its going to matter what type of crank and cam you have.
If you have a 2 piece RMS then your going to need a 86 or ealier block.
If you have a 2 piece RMS then your going to need a 86 or ealier block.

Buy some books first and stop spending money ignorantly. As mentioned, if you have the parts, they will dictate the block selection.

YEAH... this is the first "performance" V8 i have built. I have only built probably 3-4 V8s and they where are just factory rebuilds. This is actually the first V8 ive really owned. I was mainly into imports, having built quite a few 4G63T and VR4 and a B16 or two.
dumb question: how do i know if i will need a two piece or one piece RMS? Everything i have came with that car. and i dont know Alot about it all.
KB Silvolite pistons
383 crank
Weiand intake
230* dur, .480" lift, 109 lsa. camshaft
?chrome moly? pushrods
some type of "performance" lifters
ARP rod bolts
clevite 77 bearing
and some other stuff...
some type of performace oil pump
dumb question: how do i know if i will need a two piece or one piece RMS? Everything i have came with that car. and i dont know Alot about it all.

Actually you need to determine what crank you have and which type of block it is ment for, you should have that information from the place you got it from or be able to ask them what type you have they don't interchange between the two types check like said above the flywheel end of the crank if it's round it's one piece if it's not it's the old style pre 86 type (2 piece seal)..
