Cleaning the inside of the motor

Well guys, I changed my valve cover gaskets because I am going to use synthetic oil, and didnt want any leaks.....When I took the valve covers off to my dismay, there was alot of dry carbon looking crap in the covers, and on the heads, rockers, ect...Very bad........What can I use to get this out of my motor??? I was really suprised as I keep my oil changed often, and the outside is clean as a pin...What have you guys had good luck with??? Thanks for any help on this issue...The motor appeared to be oiling good, and does not use oil, or smoke, but this will drive me crazy now that I know......Tom

Do a search and I think the product you are looking for is called sea foam, I was thinking about trying it.

Your welcome, I found this thread very interesting, are you running the TBI still, a carb or TPI?

I am runnig the stock TBI, but I am thinking of using a aftermarket four barrel intake, if I get good reviews from some of the guys on the board...Yes, I remember that thread...Seafoam did a good job on my TBI, now I just gotta get the inside cleaned up...Thanks again.....Tom

Transmission fluid. Mix a quart in with your oil. Will clean just as good as the Engine Flush, and you wont loose as much lubricity in your oil. Im pretty sure the Engine flush is just kerosene.

carbon stuff, dry

you have leaking valve guides , at the very least you have to put some valve seal in the head

not that hard with an air compressor.

If all you are doing is changing the valve cover you will see this again within 1000 miles

you can put royal purple in that motor and the dry burnt looking carbon stuff will occur if you have hot exsaust creepin past the valve guides.

I am not tryin to rain on the nice car will be better after a few gaskets and some synthetic oil parade, but 9 out of 10 times I take something apart I find something that needs to be done.

There are a lot better ways to clean the oil side of the engine than by using SeaFoam. Remove all the loose sludge you can before installing the rocker covers. Install a good filter and use fully synthetic (PAO) lubricant. Change it at regular intervals for the first few changes since it's going to get dirty very fast.

What oil had you been using previously (Brand and viscosity)?
