What else would cause gasoline smell???!!!
Tired of throwing money at this. New tank and pump as of 6 months ago. Cant remember when exactly this smell really began nagging me. I always smell raw gas right next to the driver rear wheel well (especially after long trips).
Here's what I have replaced in the past couple months:
Charcoal canister
Fuel Filter
Fuel tank vent valve
Gas cap (non vented)
I have checked the lines around the tank and in the engine at the rail and find no leaks. Maybe I got one of those bad fuel filters. Cant remember what brand I recently installed. I'll take another look today.
But if its not that, what else could it be??

if you are smelling gas in that area it is from the evap canister all though you replaced it it is coming from the canister did you happen to put a new charcoal filter in the bottom of it when you replaced it... looks like a very big tea bag only dont try and make tea with it...

Its supposed to only let air in, not gas smell out. Maybe your valve is missing.

brand new gm valve installed a week ago. Still smells like raw gas.
I replaced the o2 sensor today and found lots of my poor performance was from FILTHY
K&N filters. Cleaned them tonight and noticed a big diff.
Hopefully, now that im getting air in to burn that gas I wont smell it anymore!

i got used to the smell after about a year, i think in my case its my evaps canister. my gf and i cant smell it ne more, but when i had to take my drivers exam, the woman nearly passed out from the bad smell. point being, you should mayb find somebody to sniff it out if you can still smell it, women have a heightned (sp?) sence of smell compared to men.
how would one know when the valve on the tank is gone?...when they unscrew the cap and all this pressure is released?

you will get some pressure when opening the cap, especially on a hot day. All i know is that replacing the valve is part of the trouble shooting for gas smells.
I should have my lady sniff it out. Thats probably a really good idea. I now wish id gotten in before the gas tank recall stopped.
I really think the problem was not enough air through the intake and a fouled o2 sensor (it had been close to 70k mi since i changed it).
Ill check it out over the next week. If thats not it, its got to be something with the tank itself or the shop did a not so great job of sealing the new fuel pump in the tank.
