Will this combo work???
Here's the scenario,
I have a 88 305 roller block, .030 w/FT's. I have a set of 062 Vortec heads. I want to use the LT4 Hot cam kit. Dual plane intake w/650, HEI, Long tubes. This will be backed by a rebuilt 700R4 w/stock stall, and 3.42 gears. I would like to know if this combo will work especially the long block stuff (cam,heads,etc.).
Thanks in advance for your input and help.
Thanks, Steve

thats a big cam for a 305 but it will sound really good and should really make good power, you will lose low end torque for high rpm power but it should work good with a 2500 stall and gear setup good luck and post some clips when finished

Stock converter is gonna hold you back, especially with that cam. It's not huge, but on the big side for a 305.

Thanks fellas,
What amount of stall would I need? (This is used as a weekend cruiser for my wife and I, and not a racer). If I kept the same stall & went with 3.73's or 4.10's would that help. Would I still get a little lope at Idle if I went with a 355 block with the same cam?? Thanks again guys for the help.

Vortec heads with stock springs/retainers/guides probably won't be able to handle the lift of the Hot Cam (assuming the "kit" included 1.6:1 rockers).
Stall depends upon use. Street driving, 2500 would probably be sufficient. Drag racing, you'd probably want 3000 minimum.
