something i've been wondering about my engine for a long time...

when i first start my car in the morning (bone stock LG4, carb.) i have to hit the gas pedal before i even turn the ignition. not really a problem, but then it revs extremely high, i want to say around 2500ish, until it warms up for a little bit, then i hit the gas again and it settles into idle about 800 or so. what's the deal with that.

i also had similar pronlem with mine at first then it started to race, check vacum. I used wd40 spraying a light dusting over the vacum lines, when the motor changed sound i found the leak

normal, when the choke sets itself closed when you tap the gas the high idle cam also drops into place which keeps the idle up to prevent stalling when its cold.

Once it warms up and the choke opens up it also releases the high idle cam and allows it to idle down after you push the gas enough to take pressure off the cam allowing it to drop back.

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Sounds like it's working perfectly. That's exactly what it's supposed to do.

although 2500 is a bit high, even for a cold fast idle speed, imho

but if it only does it when its totally cold then its normal yeah

even so, if it were mine i would unscrew the fast idle screw a bit and lower it closer to 2000 rpm or so

factory LG4 fast cold idle is 2200 rpm though but i dont like to run my cold engines that fast

and having to depress the pedal at least once when its cold is how you set/close the choke so that it will fire right up and run on the highest step of the fast idle cam on the choke linkage part of the carb
