What is this?

Both pics are of a 400 SBC, In the first pic there is a bolt which idk why its there or what its there for? The second pic is a picture of the opposite side which appears to be a small freeze plug? If so why would there be a bolt in the first one?

I'd throw in a petcock. You can find 'em in the parts stores where they have the brass fittings and whatnot, I think it's 1/8"NPT. That makes it easier to drain/flush later.

Alright, thanks for the info guys. But in the second picture that is not a bolt there, to me it looks like a smaller freeze plug? Should I leave that "plug" there or turn that into a petcock also? Thanks again for the info

i believe that is a threaded hole so it might be an allen screw that has been stripped out... but i would replace it with something wether it is a petcock or freezeplug or even a square head bolt in a rebuild why cheap out on a 95 cent piece\

BTW like your engine stand autozone special... did you get the engine hoist with it too? i folded my autozone hoist...an inline 8cyl desiel with ZF hurth transmission weight more the 1500 lbs

Yeah, I got the engine hoist with it also lol seems to work fine so far but I just used it to pull my 305 and 700R4.
