Sounds like your having an issue with the locking steering wheel/park linkage.
There is a ring on your steering wheel colum the moves when you move your shifter when everything is hooked up. it has to be in the proper position to lock the sheering wheel when the key is turned to the off position. If you turn it by hand (I think it's counter clock wise. if not, the other way!) as far as it will go, you should be able to turn the key to the off position and remove it. Basicly, it's like turning your engine off without putting the shifter in park, you can't get the key out till you do.

Re: key stuck in ignition

I am having very same problem. All of a sudden it was very hard to put into park. (had to force it) I could also hear a clicking sound inside my steering colum. Now I know something is broken inside because there is no click inside the steering colum and it shifts into park very easiliy. My key is still stuck in the ignition.

I understand what sqzbox is saying but is that the solution or a fix to just remove the key? Can the steering lock be removed?
