You can, but they may damage the mating surface on the aluminum head. Some can, some can't - depends on how they are made. Best to check with the mfg of the gasket if it doesn't specifically say you can or can't use with aluminum heads.

i used the felpro embossed steel shim for my motor.. 4.100x0.015.. aluminum heads too.. i would highly suggest you go buy a spray sealant for the gasket.. i used some copper spray.. works fine.. put a nice coat on the block, both sides of the gasket, and the head.. be generous.. lets see if i can find a pic of the stuff i used.. here we go.. same stuff i used

they shouldnt mess up your heads.. also, make sure your block deck and heads are FLAT.. if its a little warped, it will leak.. .015" is not enough gasket to seal itself..

if you dont mind me asking, why do you want to run a steel shim gasket in the first place??
and the standard felpro gasket is .039"x4.166"

you dont want to be upping your compression solely with a head gasket... although if your pistons sit .025 in the hole the .015 is what would be best to get your quench to .040 but i would check if you are using aluminum heads they might not be compatible

holly crappa batman thier isnt anything gonna save your quench besides 0 decking the block... are you sure they are .045?
and i ment check with the gasket company to see if you can use the gasket with the AL heads
what pistons and heads are you using?? to get 9.6cr?

well maybe a little more than .025 like max .035 some will say they have seen more who knows... but with those pistons and 64 CC heads your CR will be around 10:1 with your deck at .045 so it probably wouldnt be a good idea to do that

well the .039 gasket would probably put you in the 9.6 range but your quench will be .084 which sucks BAD it might be very tricky to run any decent cam with that compression and quench so it will be a dog....that is if you have the .045 correct and the speedpros will sit even a little lower than stock it is thier saftey margin they figure a lower CR aint gonna hurt like detonation

that would be my guess hopefully...but if that were so and say you had the pistons at .025 in the hole your CR would be 10.8 with the .015 ... which depending on the cam you run wont ever see pump gas

.025 in the hole with the fel pro gasket .039 would make it at around 10.02 to 1 cr which would that be pretty good cr for other cams

Aluminum heads ALLOW for slightly more (.5 +/- cr) higher compression than iron heads will. The material of the head has no effect on the actual compression ratio
