I'm started to build my 383 but I'm wondering is the lt4 hot cam going to be a good choice to get good performance and sound? I was going to go carbed but after reserching ALOT more I think I perfer the hsr. So a 383 with the lt4 hot cam with these heads http://store.summitracing.com/partde...150+4294867010+ what kind of hp #'s would I see with this combo? just as an estimate.

The LT4 HOT cam and ZZ4 cam are the most talked about camshafts on this board. Surely you can find all the info you want by doing a search.

either of those cams would be too small for a 383. It would be a turd. They're designed for mild 350's.

Well do you know of any good cams for that combo? I don't want a radical thing cause its still going to be a street car but I want a nice camed sound with the perfomance of one too. So any ideas would help cause all I've ever heard of was that cam.

Well I'm just trying to get some ideas for that setup so would you be able to give me a couple of cams to look at that would go with my setup? Cause this is my first build and I wanted to know like what would be like a good standard cam(like a must run with the 383)? again.

Thats all I have been doing but it doesn't do you any good if you don't have a starting point or something to start from. Thats why I put this post up to get a few ideas on where to start but nobody seems too shead any light on the subject they just always say go search. Which puts me back to looking for something but I still have no idea of what to look for. bigger lift? less duration? wider lsa? I was just hoping for an idea of what would be a must run at least ____ cam. Cause then I'll have my starting point to go from.

EDIT: Mods - isn't it perhaps time for a "camshafts" sub-forum????

Just remember you need a camshaft with a smaller base circle, or it wont clear the connecting rods. 383's are a whole different animal than your basic 350.

Comps 236/242* grind is a good cam for a street 383 ifyou have a decent set of heads.
