idle/choke car stalling??
hey okay whenever i start my car and drive it the battery trouble light comes on then followed by the choke light. when im driving its okay but when i come to a stop the engine sounds like put put put, and the battery light comes on as it continues to rev/idle like that and then the choke light and if i dont give it any gas it eventually will just stall. i think it might be my carb but im not sure, also when i get out of my car after that happens i smell something it might be gas but im not completley sure, anyone got any idea what this might be? thanks for any help.

try a new choke heater relay its the square shaped green on in the convenience center under the driver side dash closer to the radio pod under there if thats not it then make sure the choke wire is plugged on to the choke real good and clean,
the choke does open up as it warms up and is fully open when completely warm right? usually the choke makes noticeable ticking noises when its working right, key in run position/or engine running
is your idle speed up around 700 to 750 in park or neutral ?
if not then make it be that
good luck

The choke doesn't make any noises, especially with the key on, engine off. The ticking noise is from the mixture control solenoid.
Much more likely than anything to do with the choke is a problem with the alternator.
