Bad lifter?

Well while im up here in pa attending school it seems that my car(back home in florida) has started making a noise which is in my dad's opinion and mine (from the vid I seen and from what he has told me) I belive it to be a bad lifter. he told me its coming from the passenger side around the #6cyl when he removed the valve cover he said the #6 intake pushrod had some play in it, he adjusted the valve, it was fine for a few secounds then the tapping started agian. oil pressure is great (55psi cold idle 35psi when warm). tapping does not go away when warmed up.

Re: Bad lifter?

Lifters don't generally "go bad" like that.

This a fairly new motor?

Sounds like a rolled cam lobe unfortunately.

Does that rocker move about the same amount as the others, or ALOT less?

Re: Bad lifter?

what kind of hardware. I have had regular rocker arm nuts back off lots of times. Had one do it three times before we "double nutted" it to make it quit. Personally i would check this out before thinking about replacing a lifter. A good dial indicator would be nice too, measure the actual amount of lift, and compare it to another valve and see if its the same. Make sure the lobe isnt going flat. Doesnt take long and will give a definitive answer.
