Coolant hose re-route

I've seen the diagrams for removing the heater core bypass BUT how would one go about removing the heater core bypass and solid pipe that gets mounted on the pass side engine compartment if I have a stock oil cooler?

Any artists out there?

Are you trying to get rid if the coolant line that is capped when removing the heater control valve? If so I want to remove that also instead of capping it.

Re: Coolant hose re-route

I'm looking to get rid of the heater bypass valve and the hard pipe that runs along the engine frame rail. Unfortunately I have the factory oil cooler so the diagrams that are on this site do me little good.

Re: Coolant hose re-route

The hard line goes straight from the firewall to the t-line then to the radiator. I un-installed my smog and diverter valve so now it goes straight from the firewall to the radiator....when i get it put back in.

Re: Coolant hose re-route

Remember though, I have a factory oil cooler. That throws 2 more coolant lines into the mix.
Maybe just a water flow routing would work. Anybody have a direction of flow for that?

Re: Coolant hose re-route

Dont know if thats what your looking at, but as you can see, my heater core/diverter valve/TB bypass hoses go from the firewall, to the diverter, between the runners and valve cover, to the manifold.

just tryin to help.

Re: Coolant hose re-route

Looks good.
So your nipple count is:
1 on manifold
2 on firewall
1 on radiator

Mine is:
1 on manifold
2 on firewall
1 on radiator
2 for the oil cooler these are my problem

Can I throw T's into coolant lines or is that going to mess up the flow too much?

Re: Coolant hose re-route

I just posted about this a bit ago. I posted more for the TBI setup, but I can put up the TPI diagrams if you need them. Should be enough info in what I posted to help you out though. There is a picture of my setup, which shows the oil cooler lines. Any questions just ask.

bypass valve delete

the link won't work for some reason.. but go to the cooling board it should be pretty close to the top of the posts.

Re: Coolant hose re-route

Correct me if i'm wrong:
Oil cooler goes to firewall (which nipple)
Manifold goes to firewall
Oil cooler goes to radiator

That's it?

That's pretty much it. If you use the non ac metal pipe on the frame rail, you can use the stock 90* hoses.
oil cooler to firewall goes to the drivers side.
Manifold to firewall to the passenger side.

Re: Coolant hose re-route

I rerouted all my stuff. I have photos here I hope you can see. I put the heater valve behind the a/c expansion tank. The vacuum line and firewall hose fit perfect. I ran my coolant line from the manifold straight out the front over the serpentine belt tywrapped to the underside of the air intake, then across the face of the radiator and around the fender past the battery. Looks like it was designed for it and cleans up the area nice, Joe
