roller cam recommendation for a 350

putting together a late moel 350 with flat tops and vortec heads and carbureted and want a good performing roller cam.the heads are rebuilt to stock.i picked up a ramjet/ht383 gm cam and lift is 431/451.im being told that cam is a little too small.any ideas?any good gm cams under 500 lift?thanks

Do yourself a favor and have the valve guides and the spring seats cut for bigger springs and more lift. Stock they are only good for around .480 lift.

The comp xr276hr or xr282hr cam would work well with those heads. If you have the head work done. Add a Performer RPM airgap and you should have a strong street car.

Agreed, the xr276hr is a pretty common setup. With those flat tops, vortecs, carb and performer RPM = a well matched combo. A proven 375ish HP combo right there.

what kind of money can i expect to spend to have the heads machined.i cant complain much,the shop i used only charged me $78 to do a stock rebuild on the heads.

All machine shops charge different. It would have been nice to had it done while there were apart.

You do need to match the springs with the cam you choose. So depends on the price of the springs/retainers. Comp suggests there 986 or 987 springs for the xr282hr cam. You can check Summit or Jegs for the price of the springs.
