A few ?'s about SBC and some other goodies!
Ok guys I would just like to say that you guys have a VERY awesome site. Im pretty new here so I hope I posted this in the right spot. Well I have a 1989 Camaro RS with a stock 305 and 700r4, the car has T tops too. Ok I know how to build sbcs pretty dang good, I have building them for the past 8 years for my dirt track race cars. So I have some knowledge of Engines. Here is what im looking at. I got a 4 bolt main 350, Im gonna bore it out to a 355 with 6" rods with hypereutectic flat top pistons. Im looking at getting some good aluminum heads. I want to go with a roller cam, lifters and rocker arms, I nice high raise single plane aluminum intake with a 750cfm carb. Of course full length header too. Just wondering if any one could estimate some HP numbers for me, I know you will prolly need to know the CC of the head and CC of flat top pistons but I dont know yet, so If you got some ideas, please feel free to share them. Ok as far as the tranny, it really depends on the HP idk if I can get my 700r4 rebuilt to handle some HP or not so if you know let me know please. Alot of people are telling me I should cage the car with a 4 or 6 point cage that way it wont mess the seal on my t tops...any suggestions? If you got any thing else to share please do. This is gonna be my project car for a while. Just like to thank all of you for taking the time to help me out.

OH also im gonna run a electric water pump and fans. And im gonna put a stall converter in it too once I figure the cam and intake rpm range out.
thanks again.

first off why 6" rods?
secound having built engines in the past then you would know we cant tell you anything about HP figures with the info you gave... we need atleast a cam and heads to go with our other guestimated info
do you plan on a drag only engine? or is this going to be a weekend warrior?

Re: A few ?'s about SBC and some other goodies!
I was just wondering if some one has built an engine close to what im looking into. As far as cam Im thinking a roller cam with a 252/258degree duration, .630/.630 lift that has an rpm range of 3200-7000. As far as heads Aluminium RHS performance heads specs are- 119cc, 2.300/1.880 valves, 360cc runners.
As far as the 6" rods, im fairly new to them. The 6" rod bumps the comprasion ratio up right? would I be better of with 5.7" rods either way im gonna put H-beam rods in it. I want it mainly for a weekend cruiser and maybe do some bracket racing every now and then.
thanks again for all the input.

No, the rod length has nothing to do with compression.
The engine you're describing is entirely unsuitable for "cruising".

no rods will never affect your CR...
119CC combustion chambers? sounds like a BBC head... that is to big 75CC is big for a SBC ...
you prolly wont find a cam for .630 lift that isnt mech rollor...
that RPM range will not be good for the street you will want smaller
like maybe in the .510-.520
with a duration of 224-230 @ 050
but that all depends on what heads you get and where they flow the best and what you plan to do with this engine

Re: A few ?'s about SBC and some other goodies!
Oh sorry the heads I listed where the ones im ordering for my brothers BB chevy, the ones that I am looking at are: 64cc, 220cc runners, 2.100/1.600 valves. As far as the cam im pretty open for suggestions. I have never built a roller engine. I take it that sticking with 5.7" rods would work out great then for what I want. I want to build this engine so Its got some spunk. Im tired of these 5.0's in town walking all over me. I also have a set of stock vortec heads that have about 45,000 miles on them sitting in my garage. Let me know what you guys think.
thanks,
Justin

I think you should start with a lot of research.
