LT1 Starter Q's
Car is in need of a new starter I think. When its cold it will "start to grab" then slips. After about 3-4 trys it grabs n starts. When its warm, it hits first try.
Anyway, I did some searching and some of you have put LT1 starters on because they are smaller, lighter, gear reduction. Then I started searching part numbers and different years took different starters. Which one is it I need? From readings, no modifications necessary, just direct bolt?

95-97 10465293
98-02 (ls1, anyone tryed it?)10465385

Doesn't matter; they're all the same, functionally.
Yes, it's a direct fit.
I don't think the LS1 one will work.

Re: LT1 Starter Q's
I don't know what the physical difference is between the '93-94 and '95-97 starters, but the '95-97 was the years they changed to a dual cat setup, so that may have something to do with it??

Re: LT1 Starter Q's
The blocks are the same, the flywheels are the same, the BHs are the same, the batery cables are the same, the ignition switch is the same. In short, everything the starter touches in the different years, is the same.
Even if the 2 (or however many) models of starter are different to the eye, they will both work; either on any year of LT1, or on a suitably equipped earlier motor as well.

Re: LT1 Starter Q's
I just found the bolt thing, as well that was posted on here(read that after I saw online other place).
Anyone know what bolt length(s) and thread-pitch is needed?
I'm seeing prices anywhere from 59 to close to 200 for starters.

Re: LT1 Starter Q's
I just finished gettting mine in. I did have to shim it some to space it away from the fly wheel was too "tight". So there is some tweaking involved

Re: LT1 Starter Q's
Does one of the 2 part numbered starters (93-94) (95-97) have more torque or gear reduction then the other? if there both the same why are there two different part numbers? why didn't GM stick with one? theres gotta be a reason?
