AC mounting

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, it's not technically part of the engine. I've searched and browsed and can't make sense or this.

What about a 3rd gen determines where the ac compressor is mounted? I've seen firebirds, cameros, of various years and they all seem different. Most are passenger side but many aren't. Did GM just flip a coin every year or is there some rhyme or reason? I'd like to get an idea as to which models are driver's side. I think it will simplify a turbo app.

Humm, IIRC, the V-belt systems have the driver's side, the serp-belt systems the pass side.
