Re: vortec heads

Yep, you can move it all over there. I think vortec heads usually used SA rockers, so you'll need guide plates.
And yea, machine the bosses down so you can use your comp springs, and have that big lift cam in there.

Re: vortec heads

vortec heads can only use self aligning rocker arms and NEVER use sa rockers and guide plates, must also use center bolt valve covers. If you use 1.6 rocker arms you must enlargen the pushrod holes in the head with a 1/2" drill bit so they don't rub on the inboard side. Great performance heads for the money, but on that many cubes I would enlargen the intake and exhaust valves since the machine shop is already gonna do work on them. lt4 hot cam is a good choice for the vortec heads.

Must use self-aligning, or guide plates. But, as you said, not both. Originator didn't mention guide plates, but I would guess with 041 heads they were non-self-aligning rockers, so guide plates would be indicated with the Vortec heads. If the screw-in studs on the 041 heads didn't have guide plates, you'll need different studs.

I've only heard that with slotted, non-self-aligning rockers. I was under the impression not needed with later round hole self-aligning rocker type heads. Can't hurt to enlarge them, though.
