Cam break-in ? with y-pipe off

I am going to get my engine going tomorrow.
It is a flat tappet cam in a 383. The engine block is already broke in(has about a 1000miles on it)

Now that I had to put in a different engine block, the oil pan is different and my y-pipe conficts with it now.

Would it be a problem if I was to start the car with out the y-pipe on?
Unfortunely, I am in the country and my exhaust guy doesn't live beside me.

Could I break the cam in with out the y-pipe?

Is it too late?

Yes, you can break the cam in without the y-pipe. There is slightly more risk, the greatest being not hearing something that isn't right and doing damage. But, if you are confident of the way it was assembled, roar away.

You have shorty headers, I presume?

Had more fabbing to do with the intake, so we didn't start the car yet.

Yes, I have shorties.

Good point about the loud noise!

I had to do that. Boy it's loud. 20-30 minutes and you're nearly insane from the noise... I used headphones and my head still hurt... All (every single one) of my neighbors came out to see WTF was going on...

You'll get soot on your oil pan most likely, no big deal.
