what should i look for truck,car or what for 76cc center bolt heads and what casting numbers do i look for

hmmmmmmm..... I'm not entirely sure they made 76cc centerbolt heads. While 76cc was very common in the 70s and early 80s when they were still using perimeter bolt heads I'm not sure if they ever made a centerbolt head (87-up) with chambers that large. Not sure though. I'm sure somebody else will chime in.

You want low compression with your flat tops for use with a blower?

my uncle gave me a 383 that he used in a circle track car i plan on putting it in a 1988 3/4 ton gmc 4x4 but i has dome pistons i need to lower the compression for pump gas i would like to use the tbi fuel injection with mods holley tbi and custom chip any ideas? thanks for replys

I think you are better off looking for some aftermarket heads. They sell some affordable aftermarket heads with larger chambers that flow pretty good.

What heads does it have on it now?

Personally, I'd go with flat top pistons - if the heads on it now are decent. Cheaper than new good heads. And, as already stated, there aren't any good 76cc factory heads.

on mortec some are not listed as to what CC the chambers are

no vortec head is 76cc stock nor fastburn... why the hell would you even look at swirlport


never heard of a circle track allowing 383s normally they allow like 357s or so
but if it was a circle track engine then it should be pretty well set up

If they are 76cc chamber heads, which I doubt (mortec.com doesn't list chamber cc's for those casting #'s), they certainly would be swirlies. Not the best thing to do to a hyper'd engine, but may not be a bad move for a 4x4 - if the cam is replaced as well.

Just thinking out loud...

But couldn't you use peremeter bolt valve cover heads, get some el cheapo valve covers and modify the center bolt holes (use little wedges or something) on the intake? I've seen the little wedges before. Like the opposite process for using an old intake on new heads.

Could be. Dished pistons is the other way to achieve that low CR, and the factory was going more dished in those days.

The only swirlies I've had off were 305's, which as you might expect were small chamber, so if the '87-ish truck heads were larger chamber, that would be new info in these parts.

It would be good info to get nailed down. Anyone here actually cc'd those heads?
