Summit 200cc aluminum heads for 383 HSR???

building a 383 with an HSR so i got the GM hot cam and i didnt want to buy the HSR until i got the heads and ive been looking for the right combo to make 450hp-500hp with my HSR 383, and im on a budget... can anyone tell me the flow rate etc on these summit heads???

i believe im gona have to flow 260cfm inorder to make my desired HP figures due to my mild cam that specs out at 218/228 duration, .525 lift with 1.6rr 112 lobe

i already got proforms 1.6 aluminum rockers and the cam/timing chain/lifters.

these heads seem ok, for the 950$ price, 200cc 2.02 valves dual ssprings good for 5.75 lift etc i kno everyone goes with AFR's or TFS twisted wedge 23 degree heads but i dont really want to spend the 1200-1400$ unless its the ony way to make that power. if not the summit heads...wat heads do u prefer for a good price to get my HP?

you could also look into patriot heads. they make a few different types now. top of the line compares to trickflow and AFR. good price too

on ebay they have a pair complete they sell for under 800 bucks! also suppose to flow well. 195cc heads

but that hotcam is a mild cam, not sure you'll see much more than 420 hp with that 383, if that. might want to step up to a larger cam like the cc503 224/230 or better yet, a 230/236-ish grind

Re: Summit 200cc aluminum heads for 383 HSR???

yea i looked into the patriot heads.... they did a test with them in CHP and they barely made like 6hp more than stock iron vortec heads... and the vortecs made like 10ftlbs more torque.... i kno the 185cc patriots are like 795$ but idk about the larger ones. ppl have told me that summit racing owns trickflow and their for they are made in the same shop as trickflow.

ive seen the hotcam and vortec headed 383s with carbs make 430hp and 450lbs in CHP.

the reason i went with the hot cam is bc its gona be a daily driver and i didnt want a crazy lopey idle and i needed enough vacume to run power brakes and cruize control etc. they say the hotcam and HSR are a great match bc the power ranges are the same to build power... im just trying to match up the heads for the same power band. what would be a good head for the combo of a hotcam/HSR with power max around 5500-5800?

and wat are the flow rates of the larger patriot heads?

Re: Summit 200cc aluminum heads for 383 HSR???

hotcam should peak around 5400-5500 in a 383. i think it pulls to 5600-5700 in a 350.

i havent seen the tests your talking about but i'd be surprised if those patriot 185's or larger CC heads didnt make much more power than vortec heads unless it was a smaller cam that wouldnt benefit from bigger heads in the first place. vortecs dont flow much more than 230s cfm but do make good power due to the design.

the larger 195's i hear flow near 260 cfm or so. worth a shot at the prices they are offering them at.

Re: Summit 200cc aluminum heads for 383 HSR???

sry it was carcraft august issue 2007, it has the partriots as a 800$ aluminum head and they dyno tested it against scoggin dickeys modified vortec heads. votecs flowed 240cfm at .5 lift and 229cfm at .6 lift. and made 410hp and 385 ftlbs

the patriots flowed at 188cc heads 229cfm at .5 and 263 at .6 but only made 401hp and 392ftlbs... the patriots only started making more power at 5300. the tests were done on a 355, with 1.6 cranes roller rockers, 10.2 compression and the cam spec'd out as 288 intake and 296 exhaust... 226 at .050 and 234 at .050 , lift comes in at .488 and .504 with lobe at 114

Re: Summit 200cc aluminum heads for 383 HSR???

I just ordered a set of the 195 patriots and I'm having them ported. I'll let you know how they work out on my 383 as soon as I get them back and get the car back together. I'm building on a budget also and thought they would be worth a shot for the money. I bought mine from White's Performance and they sold them to me with 2.05 valves, seals, spring guides and a 5 angle valve job but no springs or retainers for around $690. The bare castings list for around $550 as I was told from the guys at Patriot so White's is selling them pretty reasonably. White's sells them assembled with the 2.05s on ebay for $830. I didn't buy the assembled ones because I wanted to use some different hardware but I'm sure they would be a great set of heads to bolt on and go for someone with a mild budget built small block. You can barely get a set of iron heads for that price and even if they don't flow much better than vortecs you get the advantages of aluminum. I'm figuring mine will flow around 280-290 after porting. The dude porting them is my brother, an engine builder by trade, whose gotten 290 out of stock LT-1 castings so this should be a reasonable figure. I'll get some numbers up for you when they are done.

I don't know if they have a website, I talked to them over the phone. I'll get the number for you. Or you can just search ebay for patriot heads and you should find them. My brother got them the other day and say the castings look pretty good. He hasn't started the porting yet to see how thick they are but 280 cfm should be a breeze. Talk to you later.
