I know this is silly but I forgot were the oil sending unit is on a s/b v/8 gettimg old
looked @ 3 books no help have they forgotten how to write one??? anyway did the search thing lots of hits so maybe It's not just me
one more ? this is an older conv v-6 2 350 what color and loc. is the sending unit wire on an 83 camaro (idot light)

So it's an 83 right? If so, the sending unit is probably located behind the intake manifold next to the base of the distributor, especially if it's an idiot light. Should have one wire going to it if it's just an idiot light sender. The newer V-8's, about 89-up if I remember right, have the sending unit located right above the oil filter in the side of the engine block. These are the only two places I know of that they put them.

your in luck...here's 2 pictures of where they could be....
1st one is right by the dizzy as stated above

heres a question.
the single prong connector on the top is for the gauge
the two prong connector on the side of it, or just below where it screws into is for what??
i don't see it in those pictures, but I see a two prong connector looks like the end of an electrical plug, with nothing attached to it, right below my sending unit. style is up top by distributor, like the first pic.

I'm drawing a blank here, I can't think of anything that takes a two prong connector in that vicinity...

thanks! the mem.s are getting thru the grey matter the one @ the dist. is the one I need the 2 prong if I am not mistaking and prob. am is the cutout switch for the elec. fuel pump no oil no gas no boom. have'nt messed with these old girls in a long time but it's all comming back.

It's not a cutout switch, it's a backup for the realy. The fuel pump will be perfectly content to keep running without a drop of oil in the engine, as long as the fuel pump relay still works.

Had a good day 2 day changed out the gauge cluster finally found the #@$@#$ oil press wire for anyone thats interested it comes out of the main harness directly behind the dist redish brown with a rubber boot and offset conn. now for some fun blew the master cyl. this morning it's Sun ok no biggie pull the 1 out of the 86 Wrong!!! ttl. different than the 83
guess what the guts are ident. score 1 for the working guys
