what kinda of chip do you guys suggest for my car, its a stock 89 trans am with flowmaster, but i do run 93 octane in it all ready so thats not a problem, but it is my dd, but my friend has a stock Z28 84 and he beat me, im lookin to change that. I was looking at a hypertech or jetchip stage I

If you have the TBI 305 in your TA, it's gonna take a lot more than a chip to beat him.

he just barely beat me, i thought the 84 was supposed to have less hp than the 89's

my bad, I thought I read 94 Z28.
In that case, I would go with gears, 3.73's, and some headers and you should be good to go.

When my 88 was bone stock with an auto and 3.23 gears, going to 3.73 gears made a huge improvement, then putting on the headers made it so much quicker.

so, gears and headers, im not very good at working on cars, but my little brother can do headers, but what about the gears how do you change them?

installing gears requires a bit of know how. You have to know how to set the pinion to ring gear mesh, too tight and it will howl (and the gears will eventually break) and too loose and the teeth will snap.
Gears and install kit will run about $300 in parts and install can run anywhere from $150 to $500.
