Car starts, won't run....

The bad part of this is I fried something... Forgot to disconnect cable at battery, removed altenator... + wire from battery to altenator touch block, things when up in smoke, stopped when the cable from the battery melted through. So I got it all back together... Tried to start it... it will turn over and fire but won't run. If I disconnect the MAF it'll run up to 2500 rpm and then back down to 0 and stall.

Ideas would be welcome. I do have spark and fuel pressure. (it does run for a few seconds with the MAF disconnected... the MAF was not connected to the motor when I fried it. The ECM threw a trouble code when I disco'd the MAF(33) and the normal 12.

That alternator charging wire is connected through a fuse link. That link, and possibly some others, is likely damaged. Meter voltage at various points and around the fuse panel to see if any 12V sources are missing.

Re: Car starts, won't run....

My manual says there's a fuse for ECM power near the battery somewhere but I have no idea where it is. There were 2 big wires coming of the positive terminal. The other wire coming off the positive terminal obviously goes to the starter. The wire to the alternator had 2 wires coming off it. A red and an orange... any idea where these go?

New development... I can sorta keep it running with gas... ie I put the gas down and it'll race up to like 4K rpm and then go down... and then up again... and then down... I'll check for voltage

Checked a bunch of the grounds and hots at the ECM (took the ecm off and checked the connector... ECM seems to be getting good power (constant power and ECM grounds all appeared to be fine) Any more ideas here would be welcome. (And thanks for the help you've provided already vader)

I did the same thing, there is a fusible link where the wire from the alternator hooks up to the junction box near your battery. Replace it, or at least check it with your DIMM real quick.

Re: Car starts, won't run....

Just so you guys know what an idiot I am.... (and no, I don't have a fusible link there) It turns out the actual problem was my fault... no real damage from the blow up. When I put the intake back together I put the runners on backwards... ergo, vacuum leak... it works now.

Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!

I'm only laughing because I've tried to put the runners on the wrong sides. Yes, that makes for a bit of a leak. Ever caught yourself trying to put rocker arms on before torquing the heads? Guilty. Installing a water pump upside down? Put a flywheel on backward (flex plate)? We've all had those looong days at times, I'm sure.

At least you found it, and no serious damage was done.

That sux! Glad you got it fixed. My car is getting same code 33 and doing the EXACT same thing. But I know my runners are on correct...
