engine tuning, engine bogs under acceleration
i got a 86 IROC with a goodwrench 350, hei, air gap manifold, 650 edelbrock, holley fuel pump. it has NGK R plugs at .045. The car bogs often under acceleration, just before i feel the secondaries open, and i can smell gas all the time. I think the plugs are a little big maybe, and maybe my car could use a timing adjustment. what are you guys running for plug gaps, and timing for mild 350.
its got stock heads and cam.

i time my 355 around 37...but from what ive seen the bigger cam seems to want more timing and i have a decent cam so for you timing should be good around 34-37 range...i gap my spark plugs at 35 or 40....but i think your problem lies in the carburetor...make sure you jets are of a suitable size...make sure your floats are set and that there is no dirt in them and possibly even squirters...with my car if ya gave it gas it was fine ...but if you smashed it , it would bog or fall on its face...that was fixed by upping the squirters and a little adjustment on the accelerator pump...if you feel it falling off once secondaries are opening check the rear accelerator pump
----------
ok nevermind about the carburetor talk i just now realized you have an edelbrock ...sorry lol...in that case id mess with jets..squirters and the front mixture screws...drive it around then check your plugs ..they should be a light tan color....if darker your rich ...pretty much no color means too lean

Ya carbs are always tricky to tune right. i think it would probably run better with a rebuild. I have a hardline running to the carb and when i took apart my motor i noticed the gasket was chewed from getting caught in the threads. maybe something got in there and is restricting flow. i think I'll get a pressure regulator as well to make sure its getting good consistant pressure.
As for the timing adjustments, its running hot which is makes me think its advanced a little much. I think if I put a cooler thermostat, get smaller plugs and retard the timing it might run a little smoother. i don't know about the NGK Rs they seem to me like they are japanese junk. I've heard good things about AC delco maybe ill get .040s

if your car is running hot i would think the timing would be retarded not advanced
