Personally I think 195cc heads are the best for a 383.

I run 195's on a 350, I think 195's or 200's would work great on a 383.

on a budget i would say the sportsman II's.. i think they are 200cc.. a friend of mine has a set and a hydro flat cam.. he has run a best of 11.70.. plenty fast for a street car.. and on a budget.. less than $1000 before shipping..
go to jegs.com (engines & components-->cylinder heads-->World-->Sportsman II) and look at the "more details" link under the sportsman II product listing.. it shows you an engine combo that produces around 480hp..

I would have to say that Airflow Research 195's are the best set of street strip heads for a 383, combined with a comp cams xtreme energy hyd roller 288 cam you can make over 500 horses, with a nice torque curve. I know you said cheap, but speaking from experience you'll save in the long run by buying the best first, instead of getting bored in year or two and wanting to improve.

as said any 200cc head or afr 195's cause they flow like a 210

I have the Dart Pro One 200cc heads on my 355 and no problems with my TPI.

you can run any head that takes a 1204 or 1205 gasket, most 200cc heads are a 1205, 220cc and bigger use a 1206 and the stealth ram base needs to be heavily modified to work with thatOriginally Posted by irocz2889

on a mild street 383 anywhere in the 180-200 range is good. better flowing better quality 195-200 cc heads for more street strip vehicles. Most of the good brands heads in that range flow near 250 cfm or better, which is good enough for near 475-500 hp on motor, depending. 200-220 heads for hot 383's making 500hp plus i'd say.
so 210cc sounds the best if im gonna be driving it not just racing it i dont plan on rebuilding this motor again if i upgrade ill just get an LS1 or something (easier said than done) yeah so i do want it drivable on the weekends with out going through a tank in a day so what about these that i found off of ebay

210 might be a bit big i would stay below that...
just because a set of heads can flow enough for 500+ HP doesnt mean you will be making it at a realistic RPM

I'm running 215 cc Darts but then again I'm also spinning a decent cam and 14lb's of boost.

trust me, stay at 200cc.. anything above that, you're lookin at the need for more compression, more cam, more gear, etc.. 195-200 will be perfect for a mainly street car.. like i said, go with the sportsman II's.. i think someone on this forum was selling a pair.. do a search in the parts for sale section..
does anyone know if the hsr can be port matched to the World Sportsman II heads with out adding material thanks again

if its a new HSR within the last year i believe, it has extra material on it already and can be opened up to a 1206 port which is most 210-220 heads.Originally Posted by irocz2889

how do you tell ifyou have the new or old style? (preferably without having to remove the intake)Originally Posted by Orr89RocZ

my hsr is almost exactly a year old
there will be visually alot of material around the top of the ports. HSR's have a casting date on the base manifold. mine is in 2002 lol so its old.
see this thread for info and pics of the differences

Want cheap? Use a set of Vortec type head. I've seen a 383 with stock Vortec heads, 10:1 compression and a 288 XE cam put out 430 HP/460 TQ on pump gas on the dyno.
By stock heads, I mean the ports where stock, but the valve stem was machined to handle higher lift cams.

yeah but those wont fit the HSR i ordered or will they????

you could get an HSR drilled for vortecs
are vortecs aluminum you know as well as i do we all need to get weight of that front end
