Choke light keeps flashing

Hello, wanted to know if anyone knows what the problem may be. When i start the car the Choke light keeps flashing. I dont know if this is due to the ground not being hooked up right because my head lights flash and all the dome lights flicker as well. Please advise

You certainly need solid grounds.

Could be an alternator problem as well. Have you put a multimeter on it?

No muti meter, not that i know of, And the last owner said when they put the new 350 in a ground wire wasn't hooked up right, so i have no clue how to track down the problem,. i dont think its the alternator as it keeps the battery well charged.

On my truck the choke light is connected to the oil pressure gauge and switch and when you have 0 oil pressure at the switch it lights the choke light. It may not be the same on carbed thirdgens but check your oil level and pressure just in case.

Have fresh oil in it, when i had it changed they did use thicker oil, but the oil pressure is strong, fresh engine, has under 10k miles. rebuilt,

In thirdgens there's no connection between the choke light and the oil system.

If your other lights are flickering as well, you probably have an alternator issue, regardless of whether your battery seems to be staying charged or not.

Well you see the choke light FLashes in a way that it would flash as if something were wrong, the lights flickering is another problem, im just trying to figure out why the choke light is coming on...and weird thing is when i turn on my head lights, the choke light turns off....

Re: Choke light keeps flashing

The choke light doesn't "flash" when something is wrong, it's just an idiot light. It also doesn't turn on when the choke is on. Normally it's on while the ignition is turned on before the engine starts, and goes off immediately after starting the engine. It shouldn't be on at any other time, regardless of what the choke itself may or may not be doing at the time.

Re: Choke light keeps flashing

It sure sounds like a grounding issue to me, especially when you say the choke light goes out when you turn on the headlights.

There should be a couple of smaller ground wires (usually black) that break out of the engine wiring harness and bolt to the back of one of the heads or maybe they are attached to an intake manifold bolt. They should be clean (no corrosion) and tight. Check the connectors and wires for damage, too.

I have a wiring diagram I could send you if you think it would help. It doesn't, however, show locations of the grounding points.
