Re: got dynomite?

If you get the time right (and how do you know?) and it isn't running right.... why would you play with the timing again instead of fixing the problem? Have you tested leakdown and coolant pressure? Did you check the cam install? Have you tried timing it by ear? No, better you pass on that one probably if you're already having fits. More info I guess may help.

Re: got dynomite?

if it is a brand new motor make sure you have the PCV valve hooked up...will help with the blue smoke.

second you are disconnecting the the tan/white or brown/white single wire connector near the blower motor while you are trying to set timing... right

Re: got dynomite?

Re: got dynomite?

well it doesnt really matter where the PCV is on the cover... but you can flip the cover 180* and be like everyone else....

if you have it installed and hooked to the proper place on the TBI then i wouldnt worry to much about the blue smoke yet... sounds like the engine hasnt been run for very long...

as for this jasper engine, did you buy a shortblock and transfer your components over? or a complete engine? swap cams?

what type of dist are you running? the stock type or an aftermarket?

Re: got dynomite?

yes i got that, it is a different engine but what i was getting at was did you have to do any work to it? like install a cam or anything at all?

How many times have you checked the firing order on this? not enough....

Re: got dynomite?

Replacement motor companies are notorious for giving you the wrong motor for a specific application. Is it a 305 or a 350? Even more important than that, what cam is in it? For all you know, it could have a flat-tappet, truck motor cam in it, or one that's so far from the stock, TBI specs, it'll never run right with the stock programming. Even though it's a PITA to verify what cam is in there, that's where I'd start looking if you're sure everything else is in spec.

Blue smoke=bad. If it blue-smokes with the pcv valve out of the V/C and you've checked the intake manifold gaskets, it's probably the longblock. Do a compression test. If there is something wrong with the longblock, Jasper will exchange it if you don't wait too long. You don't need any paperwork. Even if you didn't buy it, their tag has all the info. If they didn't tag it, the serial number is in their records. You will be surprised. They have a reputation to uphold. They would rather pay freight and swap engines than know that you will be cussing "Jasper Engines" the rest of your life.
Intake manifold gaskets, compression test, call Jasper.
