Re: this car a POS or ok?

i would say steer clear of that one the vin is wonky says coupe/z28 but the 87 in the vin designates sports coupe only... so there you have it, sports coupe... now those didnt come with the 8 digit "h" as the designates the LG4 which didnt come with a manual tranny... only autos to be had with the S/c and the LG4

Re: this car a POS or ok?

okay that doesnt change the fact that he is trying to pass off a sports coupe as a z-28... or the fact that they have seriously downgraded the entire engine? but hey if you want it go for it... that is why we are here... fixing shadetree "master" mechanics work

Re: this car a POS or ok?

how would it be downgrading? if it originally came with an lg4 how is the engine it has now bad? it has a 350 right now correct? it sounds like the guy doesnt know much about the car anyways. looks like its an 85 sport coupe dressed up as a 91 or 92 rs.

Be careful, you don't wanna fix somebody's Frankenstein. Unless you really want to of course. There's so many other cleaner cars out there still.

Re: this car a POS or ok?

I'd pass on it, man.

It's one thing to buy a car and fix the previous owner's screwups, but you only save cars that have a good, straight body unless you've got money to burn.

That is a parts car, unfortunately... and since none of it is stock... even that's dubious.

I got this car for $1500 on the TGO classifieds. That's your best bet for getting a car cheap, because guys here KNOW how much they are worth and you just cant get away with asking too much.

If you want a project car, buy a high-mileage car in good shape (like I did). Dont buy a car that's a piece of crap already.

Now if you've got money to burn, sure, buy a car that's headed to the scrap metal yard, save it, because you've got the money. See this thread:

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/body...plete-now.html

But, there are so many clean shells or just clean cars with no motors or high mileage drivetrains that you can get for so cheap... it's just hardly worth it to buy a car with body damage on it.

Re: this car a POS or ok?

im not looking for a project car since it would be my first car. im looking for a manual with a 350 and ttops if possible. but since there were none from the factory I would have to find something that someone else modified. I dont have alot of money right now either but if i keep saving till next year i should have a decent buck.

Re: this car a POS or ok?

If you dont want a project car, definitely avoid that one you linked.

Manual, 350, and TTops... you might be able to get two of those, but getting all 3 is going to be tough.

You're much better off just getting a 350 auto or a 305 manual. T-Tops can be had on both, but it depends on the year for the 350.

And the T5's are pretty weak, it probably wont last long behind a 350 if you run it hard. Expect to swap out the T5 before you change the clutch.
