Ive been looking for an online bolt shop, ive tried boltdepot and a few others. I need 10 4" socket head (allen head) bolts to put my APC seats back in. I used standard zinc finish on the last ones, and they got all boggered up and rusted. Im wanting to go with either stainless or chrome so I dont have to worry about them again. I think I only need about 4 4" bolts, but if I can find someone who sells them in 4" lengths Ill just get them all at 4" and cut the rest off once installed. Anyone got any suggestions?

Only reason I have to use socket head is becasue its the only 3/8" bolt head that would fit inside the seat slider without grinding or binding of any kind. If there is another way around that, then maybe I cann off my search. But until then, the hunt continues. Thanks!

Im still learning how to rear bolt specs, is that grade 8? if so thats a damn good deal cuz bolt depot had them for about 5-6 per bolt IIRC

Socket head capscrews are always (almost always) Gr8 strength. These are stainless however, so they'd be a bit different.
Those are 70,000 psi tensile. That's more like grade 2.

If you search on their website for bolts, then go through the normal channels to find 3/6-16 4" long socket capscrews, then narrow it down from there.

black oxide steel
zinc plated
ultra corrosion plated
All are 180,000psi tensile, more like GR9, grade 8 is 150,000 IIRC.
The black oxide shouldn't rust for a long time (my header ones just barely got some rust on it, and they see much hotter temps than seat bolts...) Or break the bank and spend $14 on 10 of the ultra corrosion resistant ones.

thanx for that info man. Is there a way to tell what grade they are just by looking at them like you would normal bolts? Friend of mine has a whole slew of socket head screws in just the right size and length, and they are all black. I think he said be bought them from Ace hardware a while back and never used them.

as for the bolts, socket head bolts have no marks on them to determine what grade they are. the black, unfinished ones that rust quick, are generally hard as hell, a bit stronger than grade 8. If you take a similar sized bolt of another grade and hold them in your had, you will feel a difference in weight, the socket head bolt will be heavier. The stainless ones are a bit harder than grade 2, unless they are specially made stronger. I would not be over concerned about using grade 8 bolts to hold the seats in considering they are only held to the floor with 6mm grade nothing studs welded to grade nothing sheet metal.

If you want a better bolt, try ARP, you can buy their stainless 12point bolts in packs of 5 from many places. they are stronger than grade 8 and the heads are smaller than a normal hex head, though they are probably a little larger than the socket heads.

Yea, those black socket capscrews will be Grade 9 equivalent.
But as mentioned, you don't really "need" a lot of strength. I don't think those black oxide ones rust all that fast, but your call. You can just buy SS ones locally for fairly cheap. They'll never rust and they'll be strong enough to hold your seat in.

Stainless steel capscrews are nowhere close to Grade 8 and I would advise against using them in a shear application.
