I just cant get the d*** thing out... Is there a trick. Because right now i cat get it.. all i can figure out is either cut my exhaust... Or unbolt all of it from the manifolds back and take it out... So... Anyone know anyway to jimmy rig that thing out??

Re: Starter Tricks...

It should tilt down towards the front of the car and slide out that way. Trust me you dont wanan remove the manifold, the passenger side manifold is a pain in the *** to remove.

Re: Starter Tricks...

See thats what i thought but the very top of my starter seems to get cought... Soo... But i wouldn't be unbolting my manifolds. I would unbolt the y-pipe from the manifold with just happens to be welded to well all of my exhaust... Sooo. I would either unbolt it all then bolt it back up. Or just take a saw-zaw and cut the pipe at the y and then put on some cherry bombs or something for a temp fix.

Ill have to try some more begging... I tried some but didnt get anyplace. Maybe once i take a look during the day something will hit me... Hopefully its the starter coming out... I wish i had a lift this would go by much smoother... for everything...Its a paint to have to try and get the floor jack under there because it either hits the gfx or cant make it past the exhaust...

Re: Starter Tricks...

It's been said by at least one person that using a very large screwdriver or very small prybar to pry the exhaust out of the way a bit helps. Never tried that myself though, so do that at your own discretion. You may want to look into replacing that big starter with a smaller LT1 or similar starter once its out.

Re: Starter Tricks...

I got mine out easy peasy. I sometimes wonder if my y-pipe being smaller than an IROC/Z28 is the reason, but you've got an RS too, so I dont know.

What I did, if I can remember right, is just rotated the starter to get the solenoid out of the way, and moved it towards the front of the car and brought it down in front of the y-pipe.

But maybe my 92 has a slightly different y-pipe?

Try a bunch of fowl language, it might get scared and drop out if you yell at it enough.

Re: Starter Tricks...

Well i have a different exhaust system from the manifolds back... They took out the cat and put in a new y-pipe so its close to stock but not completely. So im not sure... Im going to try using a screwdriver and possibly look into the lt1 starter like suggested.
